Matthijs de Ligt is going to refuse to give Manuel Ugarte his dream Manchester United shirt number.

Ugarte, who is 23 years old, is almost done with his £50 million move to Old Trafford before Friday at 11 p.m., when the summer transfer market closes.

As a new defensive midfielder, United has been dying to get the PSG star all summer. However, if United does sign him before the deadline, he won’t be able to play against Liverpool because the deal wasn’t official until noon.

After Ugarte’s £42 million move from Bayern Munich earlier this month, De Ligt said that Ugarte would not wear the No. 4 shirt like he did in Paris.

The Uruguayan player will have to pick a number further down the list. He can’t even wear the No. 15 he wore for Sporting Lisbon before, because Leny Yoro, another new player for United, already has that number.

The Red Devils already have all of these players, but the No. 25 spot could be open if Jadon Sancho, who wants to leave, completes a deal to join Chelsea or Juventus before the deadline.

United also has the No. 13 jersey, which is usually worn by goalkeepers, and the No. 19 shirt, which Raphael Varane left empty in June. You can pick any number from 26 to 34, 35 to 47, 38 to 40, 42 to 45, and any number above 47.

Since Scott McTominay is going to join Napoli, Ugarte could take over the No. 39 shirt. Two teams have agreed to pay £25 million for the 27-year-old Scotland international. He is now in Italy finishing up the move to join Antonio Conte’s team.
