NOW WE GO: Manchester United finally pulled off a last-minute transfer window coup to sign a £60 million South American superstar. A four-year contract was agreed upon, and the player will be on hand to watch today’s Liverpool match.

Yesterday, Manchester United completed their deadline-day raid on Paris Saint-Germain for midfielder Manuel Ugarte, a Uruguayan.

After just one season with the French champions, the 23-year-old now plays for the English powerhouses for an estimated €50 million (RM237 million) up front, with an additional 10 million euros in performance-related add-ons.

Ugarte remarked in a club statement, “It is an incredible feeling to join a club of this magnitude; one that is admired all over the world.”

“I have a strong desire to achieve and will do all it takes to support my teammates.

“Together, we will battle to raise this club to the necessary level and win trophies.”

After Dutch forward Joshua Zirkzee and defenders Leny Yoro, Matthijs de Ligt, and Noussair Mazraoui, Ugarte becomes United’s fifth key acquisition of the summer window.

“One of our main goals for this summer was to sign Manuel,” stated Dan Ashworth, United’s sporting director.

He has a stellar record at the club and international levels and is one of the world’s top ball-winning midfield players.

“His attributes, background, and enthusiasm will be a fantastic addition to our talented group of midfield players.”

After assisting his country in finishing third at the Copa America last month, Ugarte has earned 22 caps for Uruguay and was included in the tournament squad.

After joining PSG for €60 million from Sporting Lisbon, he won the French Cup and Ligue 1 last season, but he was unable to maintain a regular spot in Luis Enrique’s starting lineup. AFP
