Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag faces two important games this week, with the Dutchman trying to maintain his top position at Old Trafford after an abysmal run of performances this season.

Erik ten Hag is in regular contact with his supervisor, Dan Ashworth, while he frantically clings to his job.

The Dutchman is under intense pressure at Old Trafford after leading Manchester United to their joint-worst Premier League start. And, while club officials are content to keep him in charge for the time being, Ten Hag faces a pivotal week.

The Red Devils face Porto in the Europa League on Thursday evening, followed by a weekend match against Aston Villa. Ten Hag need favorable findings to solve some critical issues.

He has since disclosed that he communicates with director of football Ashworth on a regular basis and feels he still has the former Newcastle manager’s complete support.

Ten Hag stated at a news conference prior to his team’s match against Porto: “We discuss every day. We are a union, and we made that promise during the summer.

“We renewed the personnel, and I appointed my helpers. I also appointed the staff. I did it. “We also refreshed the squad.”

The Dutchman continued, “It is not required to instill trust in me. Every day, we discuss how we may better this club and team, as well as the methods, procedures, and relationships. That’s what we speak about.

Ten Hag appeared likely to quit the club in the summer. But minority owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe made a spectacular U-turn to keep him, agreeing to a new contract and investing significantly on the team.

The great bulk of the recruits, notably Matthijs de Ligt and Noussair Mazraoui, had previously played for Ten Hag. And Ashworth, who defended Ten Hag earlier this season, says this isn’t an issue.

“It’s human nature to work with somebody you’ve worked with previously in all contexts, in all business contexts,” Ashworth remarked a month prior. “That is a natural inclination, since you know the person and the athlete.

“But we’ve also signed a lot of players this summer who haven’t previously worked with Erik – Leny Yoro, Manuel Ugarte, Joshua Zirkzee – and you can’t say ‘simply because he’s Dutch,’ he knows him.

“You would give me the entire English market [if that were the case]. He hasn’t worked with him previously. He’s previously worked with Matthijs and Nous [Mazraoui], but as I’ve stated before, they were both on our radar, and it’s a collective choice on who comes in and out of this football club.”
