Martin Zubimendi shows true colours as he breaks silence on snubbing Liverpool transfer

Liverpool sought and failed to acquire Martin Zubimendi this summer, and the midfield maestro has now explained why he opted to stay put with Real Sociedad.
Martin Zubimendi maintains he has no regrets about turning down the opportunity to join Liverpool during the summer transfer window.
The Real Sociedad midfielder, 25, has been courted by a number of elite Premier League teams in the last year, but Liverpool appears to be the most likely to lure him away from Spain.
Zubimendi was thought to have already decided to join the Reds when word of their proposal broke over the summer. However, the player ultimately elected to stay put, prompting Liverpool to alter their plans.
Zubimendi was questioned about his choice ahead of Real Sociedad’s encounter against Anderlecht on the second matchday of the current Europa League season, and he insisted that he feels at home where he is.
He told reporters, “My idea is to always act on my feelings. So far, everything has gone nicely for me. Yes, there was a lot of noise. I experienced some difficult situations. The wisest decision for me was to stay here, and I am now happy and at peace. The press makes a lot of noise, but everything is easier in the end.”
He later reaffirmed his position, saying, “Of course I don’t regret it; I can’t think that after four or five games at the start of the season.” I made my decision from inside; I believed it was the right course of action, and the outcome has no bearing on me. I see promise in this team; all you have to do is see us train, and I’m looking forward to a successful season.
Liverpool chose not to sign another No.6 after Zubimendi’s change of heart. Ryan Gravenberch’s strong start to the new campaign in a new deep-lying role has validated that choice.
While the Dutchman’s resurgence in Arne Slot’s overhauled Liverpool lineup may imply that their chase of Zubimendi is over, the midfielder still has suitors in the Premier League.
Manchester City is the latest English club that have shown an interest in the Euro 2024 winner. The champions just learned that their midfield talisman, Rodri, will miss the rest of the season due to an ACL injury.
Zubimendi responded to the linkages, saying, “In the end, like any market, things come up. This summer, it was my time. These are the situations that you must deal with in the finest way possible. True, I was a little uncomfortable with everything, especially with the loudness, but in the end, I distanced myself and made the decision I believed was best. “You can rest easy in the winter.”
