Bruno Fernandes gets sent out after receiving a second yellow card in Manchester United’s thrilling 3-3 draw against Porto in the Europa League, only days after his expulsion against Tottenham.

Bruno Fernandes, Manchester United’s captain, has been sent out for the second time in five days.

Fernandes was sent off in United’s 3-0 Premier League defeat to Tottenham on Sunday, and he has now received another red card. The United captain received a second yellow card for a high foot in the 82nd minute of their Europa League match against Porto, which ended 3-3.

The Portugal international was already on a yellow card for a high foot when he stretched his boot out in an effort to catch a cross into the area. However, Porto defender Nehuen Perez stooped to head clear before collapsing, grabbing his face.

” Bruno Fernandes is not pleased. “He has gone in high with his foot, which is dangerous,” former Premier League goalkeeper Paul Robinson told BBC Radio 5 Live. “In Fernandes’ defence he is looking at the ball, but when you do that you give the referee no option.”

The sent off capped a disastrous night for United, who had led 2-0 after 20 minutes after Diogo Costa failed to keep out attempts from Marcus Rashford and Rasmus Hojlund at the near post. However, United’s poor run of form looked to continue as Porto battled back to seize control.

Pepe equalized before summer signing Samu Omorodion powered in a header and blasted in at the near post to make it 3-2 for the hosts. United salvaged a draw after Harry Maguire, who came in as a late replacement, smashed home a Christian Eriksen corner.

Fernandes’ red card against Spurs was overturned on appeal after colliding with James Maddison during a tackle. The ruling means he will be eligible for Sunday’s Premier League match against Aston Villa.

However, his expulsion in the Europa League will result in a one-match ban from the competition. United’s next European encounter is against Fenerbahce in Turkey on October 24.

United have already drawn their first two Europa League games, with FC Twente holding them 1-1 at Old Trafford. Thursday’s outcome increases the pressure on Erik ten Hag, who has now gone four games without a win and has five loses, four ties, and one win in his previous ten European football matches.
