After Ten Hag pulled Rashford from the Europa League match, Ferdinand on Rashford and Manchester United icon Alejandro Garnacho onto the field at the Estadio do Dragao.

Ferdinand countered by citing Ruud van Nistelrooy as an example of a player who wouldn’t look good in such circumstance. Ten Hag justified his tactical shift to pull Rashford off.

Ferdinand went on, “I don’t think taking him off at halftime is something that builds him.”

“I believe that if you look at someone in the locker room who plays forward, like Ruud van Nistelrooy—different, yes, I know—those guys don’t get taken off the field like that at halftime, like it was a tactical change or anything.
