Watch Arsenal vs. Southampton live stream: Premier League – English commentary

When Arsenal plays Southampton later today, they’ll be hoping to finish the international break with three more points.

In the Champions League midweek match, Arsenal defeated Paris Saint-Germain 2-0 thanks to goals from Kai Havertz and Bukayo Saka. The Gunners put on an outstanding defensive performance against the Ligue 1 winners. Mikel Arteta’s team will face a very different test the following week when they travel to north London to play relegation-fighting Southampton.

It’s interesting to note that Arsenal has lost all three of their previous encounters with the Saints, with their most recent meeting ending in a 3-3 tie at the Emirates Stadium. With Martin Odegaard still injured, Mikel Merino, who made his Arsenal debut midweek, may fight for a starting position.

Can Arsenal halt their losing streak against Southampton then? Let’s examine this.

Score prediction for Southampton vs. Arsenal
We utilized EA FC 25 to finish the simulation, updating the squads with the most recent suspensions and injuries.

The following is our predicted lineup for Arsenal in a 4-4-2 configuration: Raya; Calafiori, Saliba, Gabriel, Kiwior; Saka, Partey, Rice, Martinelli; Trossard, Havertz.

Southampton may adopt a 5-3-2 system, with the following players in the starting lineup: Downes, Ugochukwu, Fernandes; Dibling, Archer; Ramsdale; Sugawara, Harwood-Bellis, Bednarek, Taylor, Walker-Peters.

At the Emirates Stadium, Arsenal looked well early on. Saka hit the far post, and Havertz gave Aaron Ramsdale a close-range test as the Gunners attempted to take the lead. However, Southampton took the lead against the flow of the game.

When Arsenal attempted to pass out of the back, they were caught in possession, and Cameron Archer forced Thomas Partey to give up the ball. The striker gave the Saints a startling lead as he drove the ball past William Saliba and made a daring attempt at goal that soared past David Raya and into the far corner.

When Gabriel Martinelli pounced on a careless back ball to go one-on-one with Ramsdale, Arteta’s team nearly had the ideal reaction, but the former Arsenal goalkeeper made a big play to deny the Brazilian. Arsenal applied constant pressure, and shortly before the half, their efforts were eventually rewarded.

Declan Rice gained possession deep in his own half, moved the ball forward with ease, and launched the Gunners’ attack all by himself. He lobbed a pass into Havertz’s foot, and the Belgian lifted the ball over the Southampton defense to Leandro Trossard, who fired a half-volley past Ramsdale to equalize.

After the break, Arsenal had numerous excellent opportunities that went begging, just like in the first half, and time was running out to win. The main opportunity of the half came from replacement Gabriel Jesus, whose strike rattled the near post as he was one-on-one with the goalkeeper.

Arteta’s team managed an incredible 4.8 xG in 94 minutes, but they were held to a tie and couldn’t capitalize on it.
