Peter Schmeichel has informed Mikel Arteta that “he has proven Arsenal and Arteta wrong,” stating that the elite player he sold has demonstrated to Arsenal that they made a grave error and that he is superior to both the players the Gunners have in his position and their replacements in terms of goals scored.

Emiliano Martinez’s adventure in European football started with Arsenal, where he first failed to get the consistent playing time and recognition he so desperately wanted, which finally resulted in his move to Aston Villa.

Martinez took advantage of his chance to start as the first goalkeeper during Mikel Arteta’s first half-season in command. He demonstrated strong play and persuaded some supporters that he was a superior choice to the established first-choice, Bernd Leno.

In the summer of 2020, Arteta decided to sell Martinez despite his encouraging performances, keeping Leno as Arsenal’s starting goalkeeper instead.

This move has drawn criticism in retrospect, particularly in light of Martinez’s success at Villa afterward, where he became one of the best goalkeepers in the Premier League.

Martinez further cemented his reputation by keeping a clean sheet in a recent match against Bayern Munich.

Arsenal must now view Martinez as “one that got away,” according to legendary goalkeeper Peter Schmeichel, implying that the Gunners may have misjudged his long-term potential.

According to Schmeichel, “Martinez, I think he has proven Arsenal wrong, for sure,” Metro Sport said.

“I believe he has a lot of personality and is really beneficial to that Villa team.” Can he perform in this role at Man City? I’m not sure.

Sincerely, I’m not sure. However, he’s a winner—clearly—having recently won the Copa [America]. So he’s making progress too.

Martinez may have struggled if he had stayed at Arsenal, even though he has flourished at Villa. Even still, the fact that the team profited handsomely from his sale has come to light as his worth keeps rising.
