According to reports, the BBC is about to give Gary Lineker a new contract that will result in a big pay cut.

The presenter, who has been the face of the BBC’s flagship program Match of the Day since 1999, has reportedly reached the end of his tenure with the broadcaster. As a result, he is now reportedly the highest-paid employee at the firm.

Though it currently seems more likely that Lineker would sign a new contract rather than leaving abruptly, there have been rumors that a break is imminent at the conclusion of the season, and the BBC is getting ready to make its announcement.

The Telegraph claims that the 63-year-old will soon receive an offer from the BBC for a new deal worth £1 million annually. In the agreement, Lineker’s pay would be substantially less than his present £1.35 million contract.

Though he has openly broken his silence on the new contract talks in the most recent episode of his podcast The Rest Is Football, it is unclear if the commentator would be willing to take the price decrease.

Alan Shearer questioned Lineker about his contract position early in the show, drawing comparisons between the situation and Liverpool’s present predicament, as three of their finest players are nearing the end of their respective contracts.

“Me and Micah have been worried about you the last few days,” the former Newcastle player stated. Could you please provide us with some contract details? It appears as though the contracts for you, Trent (Alexander-Arnold), Virgil Van Dijk, and Mohamed Salah are about to expire. What is happening? Please let us know.

“I think there is one significant difference,” Lineker retorted. Those three are very important to the Liverpool supporters! It has been an odd couple of days. As you are aware, my contract is ending in the summer, much like Trent, Virgil, and Mo. You will inevitably need to have conversations at some point, and they have only recently begun.

“It all went out of hand for no apparent reason, but everything is OK again. I think you find yourself in a similar situation. Maybe tomorrow the Daily Mail may arrive at your door.

“Now that they are aware of it. Actually, I’m more worried about my cold. Last night on the way home, I started to feel ill. awful throat, phlegmy, and disgusting

The Daily Mail approached Lineker outside of his house and inquired about his plans to depart MOTD. He responded with an X-rated remark, adding, “F*** off, I won’t talk to you.” Move on.
