Erik ten Hag is under increasing pressure at Manchester United, and the club’s record goalscorer revealed his thoughts on his future with Sir Jim Ratcliffe.

Wayne Rooney has refuted Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s assertion, stating that Erik ten Hag’s destiny is solely his.

The manager of Manchester United is under mounting pressure at Old Trafford after guiding the team to their worst Premier League start in history. There have been some rumors that the former Ajax manager might be fired amid crisis discussions.

Ratcliffe, United’s minority owner, has previously said that any choice on the managerial role will be made by the club’s football department rather than him. Rooney disagrees, believing that the INEOS owner will make the final decision.

When asked if Ten Hag is the proper man for the Red Devils, Rooney responded: “That is clearly up to the football club’s owners to decide. I’m confident Erik Ten Hag is an excellent manager.

“He has won trophies wherever he has been, even at Manchester United. So, certainly, he is going through a terrible phase, and I believe he would admit that himself.

“But you hope he can turn it around because too often managers lose their jobs and then it’s another rebuild with a different manager.”

While implying that a decision may be approaching, Rooney has also emphasized that the Red Devils’ players must accept some responsibility for the current scenario. He went further: “I think it’s difficult and anyone would admit that Manchester United want to be challenging for titles, so to be 14th, I’m sure everyone at the club knows they need to improve on that.”I know Erik Ten Hag is doing everything he can to remedy that. Players, like I suggested last season, must perform better than they are now doing. There has been a significant shift in player composition in recent years. You simply want to see them compete again.”

When asked if he had any advise for Ten Hag or his players, Rooney responded, “It is not my place to give Erik Ten Hag advice.” He is the manager of Manchester United and has extensive managerial experience.

“When you’re going through a bad time, the most essential thing is to buckle down, work hard, and attempt to perform the basics well. I believe they showed excellent spirit in picking up a point against Villa, but the supporters undoubtedly want to see a little more, which hopefully they can start doing.”
