Ten Hag told Man Utd future ‘depends’ on £110m trio as short-term goal is set amid sack escape
After averting the dismissal from Manchester United, Erik ten Hag has been cautioned by Graeme Souness that he is not yet out of the woods. His future is entirely contingent on getting three summer acquisitions fired, and another commentator argues that the club would appear like “calamitous clowns” if they were to fire him at this time.
Only two of the seven matches that the Red Devils have played so far have resulted in victories, while they have suffered three losses. This is the poorest start in the history of the Premier League. Although they are currently in 14th place in the Premier League, Manchester United are statistically closer to the relegation zone than they are to the top four teams in the league.
Therefore, it should not come as a surprise that talk over Ten Hag has reached a fever pitch. This week, a meeting of United’s executive committee took place in their INEOS main office in central London, and the future of the Dutchman was at the very top of the agenda.
And despite the fact that we are aware that Sir Jim Ratcliffe had suggested to the board that they should split ways with the Dutchman, it appears that the decision has been made to grant the 54-year-old a stay of execution. Ten Hag, on the other hand, has been cautioned that, despite the fact that his position is not allegedly in any imminent danger, the team must make significant improvements and obtain a strong points return from their next four matches, which are scheduled to be played against Brentford, Fenerbahce (in the Europa League), West Ham, and Leicester.
The former manager of Liverpool, Souness, is of the opinion that Ten Hag’s future is contingent on him achieving the best possible results from his summer buys. He feels that it will be essential for him to achieve the best possible results from Manuel Ugarte, Matthijs de Ligt, and Noussair Mazraoui, who all joined this summer for a combined total of £110 million (€131.6 million, $143.8 million).
In an interview with the Daily Mail, Souness made the following statement: “…the fundamental point is this: many players are better than what they are showing, and that is on Erik because the primary responsibility of a manager is to get the best out of his players.”
A significant amount of money was spent by the club during the summer of 2017, yet Manuel Ugarte, Matthijs de Ligt, and Noussair Mazraoui do not persuade me.
There is no way Erik can claim that United has not backed him. Through the purchase of a large number of Dutch internationals and players that he has managed in the past, he has communicated to the club, “I am familiar with these players.” They are going to do admirably.
It would have been possible for him to say, “No, I’ve worked with them before, and they’re not for me,” if in the event that someone had brought them to his attention and he did not find them appealing.
Each of the transfers was driven by him. His future is now dependent on his ability to make things work out.
If Manchester United were to fire Ten Hag at this time, they would be “calamitous clowns.”
It is not yet clear what the future holds for Ten Hag, despite the fact that he has been preparing the team for the match against the Bees that will take place on Saturday week. If he is unable to achieve great results during the rest of the month, the pressure will continue to be placed extremely heavily on his shoulders.
Moreover, according to our information, Ratcliffe proposed the names of both Thomas Tuchel and Graham Potter as potential successors during those discussions that took place on Tuesday. Tuchel and Potter had already engaged in discussions with United throughout the summer.
In the end, however, the British billionaire decided to leave the choice up to the chief executive officer, Omar Berrada, and the sports director, Dan Ashworth. Ratcliffe placed his faith in their superior football expertise and analysis of the issue in order to arrive at the conclusion that they should support their man – at least for the time being.
Simon Jordan, on the other hand, is of the opinion that United would lose some of their credibility if they were to fire a manager only a few weeks after extending his contract. He believes that this would make United appear foolish.
He stated in an article that was published in the Daily Mail that “the appropriate time for a robust discussion about Erik ten Hag’s future was during the summer,” and that “seven games into a new season in which he has been handed an extended contract and £200 million worth of new players and a so-called new framework that is only weeks old,” was not the appropriate time for such a talk.
“I am not making an exception for United’s beginning of the season.” When you look at the league table, you don’t need to be a performance analytics genius with alleged transferable talents like Sir Dave Brailsford in order to see that 14th place isn’t good enough.
In the event that the current predicament does not improve on its own, any club of United’s prominence would be looking into potential replacements. In addition, if United were to continue to finish outside of the top 10 by the time Christmas rolled around, there would be no room for dispute; calls for the manager to be fired would be unanimous.
Although it is just a little over two months into the season, why would you modify the plan that you were so certain about throughout the summer?
In the event that they had taken drastic measures and eliminated Ten Hag during their first close season, I would have understood and even urged them to do so. However, turning back their own decision in such a short amount of time indicates a lack of nerve. Although the league table appears to be in a poor position, we are aware that this is only a tiny sample size, and that things in football may change in a very short amount of time.
In the event that they are of the opinion that Ten Hag was the appropriate individual over the summer, they owe it to him to provide him with a little bit extra rope, either to run with or the alternative.
United as a club has not yet established the stability that they promised they would have around the coach that they have promised to have. It has now been brought to our attention that Dan Ashworth and Omar Berrada.
United knows that firing their manager so soon after requesting him to remain makes them appear to be out of control, despite the fact that my gut sense is that you should always operate your business the way you think it should be managed. It will be a catalyst for them to run the gauntlet of public opinion, which will view them as a group of disastrous clowns for reversing a significant decision that they made in the summer.
UCL defender is being pursued by Manchester United, while Van Basten is slaying Ten Hag transfers.
Souness is not the only one who has expressed concern about Ten Hag’s summer purchases; Paul Scholes has also expressed his dissatisfaction with the deals that the United manager has made this summer.
Now, Dutch veteran Marco van Basten has also blasted Ten Hag for acquiring Ugarte, which he has referred to as a “costly mistake.” Ugarte, a top player from Uruguay, was acquired from Paris Saint-Germain for a price of fifty million pounds, although he has only played 103 minutes in the Premier League so far.
On the other hand, we are of the opinion that it is not yet appropriate to dismiss the Uruguayan, and we have given the specific reasons why he is essential to bringing out the best in Kobbie Mainoo.
Despite this, the Red Devils are not yet finished with their expenditure for the current season. According to our sources, United are considering a possible January transfer around €28 million for Amar Dedic. Dan Ashworth is a fan of Dedic and is hoping to beat over his old club Brighton as well as Napoli to secure his signing.
