BREAKING NEWS: New Manchester United boss Zinedine Zidane is now in intensive training with United players at Carrington. Congratulations, Man United fans.

Zinedine Zidane has been backed by compatriot Emmanuel Petit to pursue the Manchester United job if he receives the necessary guarantees from INEOS.

The Red Devils have had a horrible start to the new Premier League season, with Erik ten Hag’s team winning only two of their first seven games.

That has left them 14th in the Premier League with only eight points, five goals scored, and increased pressure on Manchester United manager Ten Hag to turn around their season.

The Dutchman appears to have survived the international break after his future was considered in INEOS’ pre-planned monthly meeting last week, and he is set to be in command against Brentford this weekend.

Prior to Ten Hag’s employment, a number of potential replacements were mentioned in the press, including Thomas Frank, Eddie Howe, Max Allegri, Graham Potter, and new England manager Thomas Tuchel.

Zidane’s name has garnered some traction in Spain in recent weeks, with sources saying that if he is appointed manager, he wants Barcelona defender Jules Kounde as his first acquisition.

And former France teammate Petit believes that if Zidane takes the job at Manchester United, he will have received promises and “solutions” to any problems with the existing side.

Petit told the Manchester Evening News: “I’m not sure he speaks very good English, either. And communication is essential in the dressing room. To be honest, I know a little bit about Zizou [Zidane], and if he wants to sign with Manchester United, he needs guarantees.

“For years, the environment at Manchester United has not been pleasant. The bench’s stability, the players’ levels, and the club’s expectations are not what they once were. United is still a large club, but not on the pitch.

“And Zizou is highly sensitive and concerned about the quality of the players. Looking at the roster right now, I’m not persuaded of some of the guys’ abilities. If he accepts the position at Manchester United, that shows he has solutions.”

Petit’s comments come months after The Independent reported that Manchester United co-owners INEOS had held private conversations with former Real Madrid manager Zinedine Zidane.

‘Over the last few months, Jean-Claude Blanc has maintained communication with Zinedine Zidane. Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s Ineos and Blanc, the CEO of its sports arm, have long admired the former Real Madrid manager. That type of Champions League success is naturally what Ineos hopes to achieve at Manchester United.

‘This is not to indicate that Zidane is set to take over at Old Trafford in the summer, but it is a link that the club is understandably keeping open.’
