Cole Palmer has shared the very succinct farewell message he gave to his Manchester City teammates following the finalisation of his £40 million move to Chelsea.

Cole Palmer just used five words to say goodbye to his Manchester City teammates.

Palmer, who joined City when he was seven years old, was pleading for a move during the 2023 summer transfer window after becoming dissatisfied with his lack of first-team appearances under Pep Guardiola. In the end, he was grudgingly let to depart the Etihad in exchange for a £40 million agreement.

Now, considering his performance for City and England over the past 18 months, it seems like a great deal. Palmer was anxious for the transfer to be finished before the deadline because the 2023–24 season had already begun.

In a training session, he even went so far as to enquire if a deal had been reached with the City kitman and doctor. “I recall training on a Wednesday afternoon at City, and the news was, ‘they’re trying to agree on a fee,'” he told GQ.

“I would always ask the doctor or the kitman if they had agreed to the fee before the ball went out.”

Even though there weren’t many people remaining at the training facility to bid farewell to, Palmer was delighted when a deal was finally reached. “I didn’t really get a chance to see many people and say I’m going,” he continued. I simply needed to get my belongings.

He then wrote his soon-to-be former City teammates a brief five-word greeting. “I messaged the group chat, ‘Thanks and everything,'” he disclosed. I’m leaving. That was it.

Palmer, who had attended City since he was a little boy, had been hesitant to leave and had first asked for a loan move. “I wasn’t even going [to] Chelsea,” he declared. I was convinced [by his supervisor].

It was easy for him to decide to quit City when he realised he wouldn’t be getting the first-team football he desired. “I just knew I wasn’t going to play as much as I wanted to,” Palmer clarified.

“You had players there who were playing in the league every week, even when I was travelling to England [camps] with younger age groups. You’re thinking, “I can play in the league,” as you glance around. It’s annoying when you’re not playing.
