Ruben Amorim’s warning to FIVE Manchester United players during first interview as new boss
Ruben Amorim has articulated his expectations for the youth players at Manchester United, including Kobbie Mainoo and Alejandro Garnacho, as he commences his tenure at Old Trafford.
Ruben Amorim is adamant that Manchester United’s youthful talents cannot use their age as an excuse, and he is certain that they must be prepared for the demands they will encounter.
This week, the new manager commenced his duties and took over a team that includes a number of underperforming talents, as well as several individuals who are expected to have promising futures. Kobbie Mainoo had a breakthrough year during her previous term, while Alejandro Garnacho has gained a greater degree of influence.
Leny Yoro was a statement acquisition from Lille in the summer, and Amad Diallo has already began to demonstrate his quality. However, the young defender has yet to appear competitively for his new club.
During his initial days in Manchester, Amorim has been explicitly questioned about five of his players – Mainoo, Garnacho, Diallo, Yoro, and Rasmus Hojlund – with the interviewer emphasising the “excitement” at the club regarding their collective potential.
However, the former Sporting Lisbon manager maintains that their age will not influence the expectations placed on them. He stated to MUTV, “I am hesitant to assert that we require additional time due to our youth.” They are adequately equipped. They are primed to meet the requirements of competing for Manchester United. They ought to be, as they are present.
“We are aware that it will require time, and we will endeavour to gain time through the games.” Yet, we must commence from the very beginning, without hesitation, without considering that they are not accustomed to this type of activity. I am not contemplating this matter. Regardless of the circumstances, they will commence with our concept on the first day. That is the objective.
While serving as Lisbon’s manager, Amorim facilitated the development of numerous inexperienced players. He will be entering Manchester as a two-time league champion manager, and he is aware that the ultimate objective is to replicate that success with the Red Devils.
The new man in Manchester is adamant that his immediate objective is to establish a style of play that was previously opposed to Erik ten Hag during his tenure. He anticipates that victories will provide him with the necessary time to accomplish this.
He acknowledged that time is essential, but he also emphasised the importance of gaining it. “To win time is to win games.” However, identity is of paramount importance to me. Therefore, we will commence with our identity from the very beginning. Certainly, we will prepare the games; however, our primary focus will be on the game model. The minor things, the small details, such as how to play and strike.
