Lisandro Martinez injury update issued by Argentina boss as Man Utd star left in pain
Manchester United’s centre-back Lisandro Martinez was unable to participate in Argentina’s World Cup qualifiers due to a back ailment, despite his travel to South America.
Lionel Scaloni has provided an explanation for the reason why Lisandro Martinez was unable to participate in Argentina’s globe Cup qualifiers due to an injury, despite travelling halfway around the globe.
A group of Premier League players were stranded in Brazil, resulting in a nightmarish journey to South America for the Manchester United defender earlier this week. The national squad’s arrival was delayed due to the cancellation of a connecting flight for Martinez, Emiliano Martinez, Cristian Romero, Enzo Fernandez, and Facundo Buonanotte, all of whom are members of the Aston Villa team.
Martinez was deemed unsuitable to participate in the games against Paraguay and Peru by the team’s medical personnel upon his arrival, which further exacerbated the situation. The initial explanation was that he was unable to “function normally” due to a hip injury.
However, Scaloni, the manager of Argentina, has since disclosed that the issue is actually related to his back and an injury he sustained during United’s 3-0 victory over Leicester on Sunday. Scaloni stated during a press conference, “We were not anticipating Lisandro’s situation.”
“We observed that he had sustained a blow to his back; however, it appears that he was not experiencing any issues, only discomfort.” Upon his arrival, the pain experienced a slight increase. He underwent tests and is currently unfit to remain in this location.
In Asuncion, Argentina was unexpectedly defeated 2-1 by Paraguay on Thursday, with goals from Antonio Sanabria and Omar Alderete aiding the hosts in their victory. Lautaro Martinez scored the opening goal for the world champions, but Paraguay responded to secure the three points.
“I am not present to criticise my players; rather, I am present to provide them with encouragement.” We were aware that the game would be challenging. After the defeat, Scaloni stated, “We are present to maintain our momentum and inspire numerous new players.”
“We performed admirably during the initial half, but the initial incident at the commencement of the second half complicated matters.” We must extend our congratulations to our adversaries for their exceptional defence. We are currently engaged in a game and aspire to regain our momentum.
Argentina remains the leader of the South America qualifying group, having accrued 22 points from 11 games. They will endeavour to recover back when they face Peru in Buenos Aires on Wednesday. Martinez will be absent from that match; however, he anticipates recovery in time for United’s subsequent match against Ipswich on November 24.
The match will be significant because Ruben Amorim will be in control for the first time since he succeeded Erik ten Hag as manager. The Portuguese manager arrived in Manchester on Monday and has already begun to establish his own style after allowing interim manager Ruud van Nistelrooy to depart.
Amorim is concerned about the defence, as Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia have yet to return to the field, despite making progress on long-term injuries. Additionally, Harry Maguire and Leny Yoro are currently unavailable.
