William Gallas, a former Chelsea player, claims that Enzo Fernandez cannot play in the Blues’ midfield with Moises Caicedo and that his inability to defend keeps him out of the starting lineup.

The Ecuadorian teammate and the Argentine international began the season in midfield, but Fernandez has been benched ever since Romeo Lavia returned from injury.

In the final game before the international break, he found Pedro Neto in space to rush forward and hammer a shot past David Raya, setting up the Blues’ equaliser against Arsenal. Nevertheless, he has still made an impression in several situations.

Gallas, a former defender for Chelsea and Arsenal, claims that Fernandez is no longer in the Blues’ starting lineup and that Lavia has replaced him because he refuses to defend. As a result, the club lacks balance and Caicedo is forced to play an unfeasible role alongside such an offensively inclined group.

“The best Chelsea XI is; Robert Sanchez; Reece James, Wesley Fofana, Levi Colwill, Marc Cucurella; Moises Caicedo, Romeo Lavia; Cole Palmer, Noni Madueke, Pedro Neto and Nicolas Jackson,” Gallas stated to Genting Casino.

“On the bench is Enzo Fernandez. The issue with him is that you have to modify your entire system to make room for him. Fernandez won’t defend, thus you can’t place him next to Caicedo.

“Caicedo would have to defend alone because Fernandez’s game is 65% attack and 35% attack, and Neto, Palmer, Madueke, and Jackson won’t defend. Lavia performs before him because of this.
