Lisandro Martinez of Manchester United is said to have shortened his international assignment in order to begin training under new manager Ruben Amorim.

According to reports, the Red Devils defender demonstrated his commitment by turning down a request to spend the next week with his family in South America. With Amorim and five new coaches anticipated to start working on the training pitch as early as Monday, excitement is growing at Carrington.

After helping Portugal defeat Poland 5-1 on Friday, Bruno Fernandes has already left the team early. Martinez is rumoured to have done the same to win over new head coach Amorim, who is now preparing for his first game as head coach.

The Daily Mail claims that the 26-year-old was given permission to spend the remainder of the foreign vacation with his family. March is when the next one occurs.

He was chosen to play in the 2026 World Cup qualifying matches against Peru and Paraguay, but he was sidelined because of an injury he suffered during last Sunday’s 3-0 victory over Leicester City.

Ahead of a hectic four-month fixture schedule, Martinez has decided to put meeting Erik ten Hag’s successor ahead of spending more time with his family. According to the Express, Martinez returned to Manchester on Saturday with the probable intention of reporting to United’s training facility two days later, when Amorim is expected to begin supervising sessions.

For next weekend’s game against Ipswich Town, his fitness is currently in doubt. As a result, Amorim might only have two healthy centre backs at Portman Road.

Given that he has been largely expected to use his 3-4-3 system at United from the beginning, this could prove problematic. Leny Yoro, Harry Maguire, and Victor Lindelof’s statuses are also in doubt following the latter’s forced withdrawal from Saturday’s match against Sweden due to an issue.

According to reports, Martinez will be tested as soon as he gets back to Carrington. After a knock to his lower back, United will try to ascertain how uncomfortable he is.

Amorim’s three-at-the-back system is expected to heavily rely on the Red Devils’ No. 6, who has developed a strong rapport with Matthijs de Ligt this season.

To make room for his availability, the Portuguese coach might have to delay his preferred configuration. Martinez’s characteristics indicate that he won’t readily rule himself out of action, thus it would be unexpected if he missed the Ipswich game.
