After spending £200 million on summer transfers, Manchester United’s management has come under scrutiny and being urged to restructure their hiring staff. Since Sir Jim Ratcliffe took over as Old Trafford’s owner, the Red Devils have made significant investments in new players, spending more than £200 million in the first summer transfer window under the INEOS administration.

In what appeared to be the next stage of an Erik ten Hag-led revolution, United signed well-known players Leny Yoro, Matthijs de Ligt, Manuel Ugarte, Joshua Zirkzee, and Noussair Mazraoui.

However, only a few months after signing a new contract in the summer, the Dutchman’s term ended in October.

His replacement, Ruben Amorim, has apparently been given a “modest” transfer budget since arriving at Carrington. The possibility for early business has reportedly been severely limited by United’s free-spending summer.

Richard Keys, a broadcasting veteran, has blasted the club’s leaders for what he sees as their mistakes, including supporting ten Hag’s costly acquisitions before firing him.

“Every briefing coming out of OT underlines what a cataclysmic mistake it was keeping Ten Toast last summer,” Keys remarked, venting on X.

“There is nothing left for Amorim after they allowed him to spend an additional £200 million or more on garbage. Someone in the brain trust ought to be let go. Amorim has nothing with which to operate.

United’s hiring staff feels optimistic about their efforts in spite of criticism.

According to reports earlier this season, the board, which included technical director Jason Wilcox, sporting director Dan Ashworth, and CEO Omar Berrada, thought they had only overpaid for one summer acquisition.

All other signings were reportedly acquired for less than their market value, with the M16 giants only agreeing to the asking price for former Lille star Leny Yoro.

But in order to acquire much-needed money, Amorim, the new United manager, might have to make some tough choices.

It has been suggested that United may be ready to let go of £86 million failure Antony.

Additionally, January is their final opportunity to collect fees for Jonny Evans, Christian Eriksen, and Victor Lindelof. Both Harry Maguire and Amad Diallo have one-year extension options, but their contracts expire next summer.

Only if United raises money through player sales, as they did in the summer, will they be expected to conduct business in terms of arrivals in January.

However, given that Ten Hag received more than £600 million during his two-and-a-half-year tenure, Amorim will anticipate financial support next summer.
