During his tenure at Old Trafford, Erik ten Hag, the former manager of Manchester United, was brutally rejected while trying to make a significant acquisition.

Yvon Mvogo, the custodian for FC Lorient, has stated that he turned down Manchester United’s offer to recruit him during Erik ten Hag’s reign because he preferred to join a team that could win championships.

The Reds won the League and FA Cups while Ten Hag was a member of United. But competing for the Premier League was a far more difficult undertaking, and the Dutchman would ultimately lose his job as a result.

Restructuring United’s goalkeeping staff was another difficult task. David de Gea’s incompatibility with Ten Hag’s vision was immediately apparent, and there were also very few backup options available to offer cover.

Mvogo was contacted before to Altay Bayindir, the Turkish custodian who would eventually be hired to play as Andre Onana’s backup. In the summer of 2022, the Swiss was given the opportunity to join United after spending a few years on loan at PSV Eindhoven.

The 30-year-old, who currently plays in the second division of France, has clarified why that alternative was never considered. “Manchester United for example [wanted me],” he said to Blick.

“But I didn’t have that option. If I can’t be on the pitch, I’m not pleased.

“I want to have fun on the pitch right now with my teammates and supporters. I’d like to compete for titles and hopefully win them as well.

The goalie has won the Dutch Cup and Dutch Super Cup with PSV during his career. Young Boys and RB Leipzig are among his former teams. In the French second division, Lorient is currently one point behind Paris FC.
