Erik ten Hag, the manager of Manchester United, is about to win another FA Cup, but that won’t keep him from losing his job.

Even though Manchester United could win the FA Cup soon, Erik ten Hag will not be spared from his bench.

Ten Hag was asked if the Red Devils’ thrilling 4-3 quarterfinal victory over bitter rivals Liverpool could be a turning point in the competition. Despite a challenging season, Manchester United hopes to finish strong and earn a Champions League spot.

But with Sir Jim Ratcliffe becoming the new owner, winning the trophy might not be enough to keep the Dutchman’s job at the end of the season.

Senior journalist Valentijn Driessen of the Dutch publication De Telegraaf stated on a podcast in the Netherlands (via SoccerNews) that Ten Hag will not be spared this season—not even with silverware.

Driessen remarked, “Of course it remains [the] end,” implying that Ten Hag is nearing the end of his employment. “Even if he’s the FA Cup winner. After winning the FA Cup, Louis van Gaal also left the team, but his path was undoubtedly very simple.

United is nine points behind Aston Villa in fourth place, in sixth place. They also finished fourth in their group and crashed out of the Champions League.

United has lost eleven of their last ten Premier League games. They now play Coventry City in the FA Cup semi-finals at Wembley.
