The dreams of Manchester City to advance in the Champions League have been left hanging by a thread after the club suffered a 2-0 loss to Juventus on Wednesday. Pep Guardiola’s team has only won one of their previous ten matches, thus their chances of doing so are extremely slim.

After Manchester City suffered a devastating loss to Juventus in the Champions League by a score of 2-0, Pep Guardiola dismissed Ilkay Gundogan’s assertion that the club should play “simpler.” Gundogan’s statement came after the Premier League champions were defeated by Juventus.

The home team was able to secure all three points thanks to a header from Dusan Vlahovic and a volley from Weston McKennie respectively in the second half. In the meantime, City has emerged victorious in only one of their most recent ten matches across all competitions, and this is their seventh defeat during that terrible stretch.

Guardiola’s team is now in 22nd place in the Champions League table with just two games left to play. The first of those games is away to Paris Saint-Germain on January 22nd, and the second comes at home against Club Brugge a week later. However, after Wednesday’s loss, City is only one point ahead of Paris Saint-Germain in 25th place. The teams that finish ninth to 24th are eligible for a play-off that is played over two legs.

Following the loss, Gundogan asserted that City needed to alter their strategy in order to break out of their rut. Due to their dismal performance, the German midfielder urged his team to simplify their playing style in order to improve their overall performance.

“I could not be more dissatisfied. There were opportunities for us to score a few goals, but at the moment, it seems as though every attack that we allow is potentially really dangerous. In an interview with TNT Sports, he stated, “I have a feeling that sometimes we are a bit careless with duels.”

“Instead of playing a straightforward game, we complicated things too much, and as a result, we failed to release the ball at the appropriate moment. In order to offer them counterattacks, you should just lose the ball. Maintain possession of the ball, be powerful, and if you are unable to do anything else, don’t let it go. We are created for possession. At the moment, things are not going the way we want them to.”

Gundogan’s appraisal took Guardiola by surprise, and the City manager insisted that his team had altered their strategy in preparation for the trip to Turin. Rather than that, he attributed their failure to the ‘final action’ as the reason for their demise.

When asked about Gundogan’s remarks, Guardiola responded to TNT Sports by saying, “No, no, we have already accomplished that today.” No, on other days, but today we were able to accomplish it. Simply put, we have done an excellent job with it. We did not lose a significant number of balls as was the case in the past; rather, we made an effort and arrived in places.

We are aware that Italian teams defend in such a deep and compact manner that it is not an easy task. They have mastered the art of dealing with situations like this. Nevertheless, we continued to play the game that we are. Despite the fact that the performance is present, the consequence is not.

Every single one of us plays really, really well. It was the final element, the final deed, that we passed up. There was, without a doubt, a transformation that took place here and there. On the other hand, I am extremely pleased of these players because they have given everything they have tried, and now we are living in those times. With any luck, we will be able to come to a satisfactory conclusion.

“I am aware that it is challenging, as it is always challenging to compete in the Champions League. We play up to our full potential. There are two games that we have, and we could use one point. The pursuit of a triumph is necessary. Our three games out of town were quite challenging. As soon as we make a change, we will have a greater appreciation for that time period.
