Marc Cucurella delivered a supportive message to the players that traveled to Kazakhstan for Chelsea’s Europa Conference League victory of 3-1 in Astana.

To seal the victory in minus-12 degrees and make it five wins in as many competition games, a youthful team traveled 3,500 kilometers. In the end, the three points were sufficient to guarantee a spot in the top eight.

Renato Veiga, a summer acquisition who plays left back by trade but was used more up the flank in the game, was one of the goal scorers that evening. He is now on head coach Enzo Maresca’s rotating roster for cup matches.

In preparation for Brentford on Sunday, many of Chelsea’s top players who participated in Sunday’s match against Tottenham were left at home to recuperate.

Among those rested for a second consecutive European match was Cucurella, whose two mistakes allowed Spurs to score the first two goals in that 4-3 victory last weekend.

At home, he watched Chelsea defeat a youthful team full of summer acquisitions and academy products with ease. After the game, he sent a message to his teammates on Instagram.

The Spaniard wrote: “Another one [rocket emoji],” seemingly solidifying his position as the Premier League’s first-choice left-back ahead of Veiga. Excellent work, team.
