Lisandro Martinez, a defender for Manchester United, talked about the negative atmosphere in the locker room following a crushing loss to Bournemouth.

Lisandro Martinez, a defender for Manchester United, blamed his teammates following Sunday’s heartbreaking 3-0 loss to AFC Bournemouth at Old Trafford.

After Dean Huijsen gave the Cherries the lead, Justin Kluivert doubled it from the penalty spot. Ruben Amorim endured his worst loss since taking over in November, and Antoine Semenyo added to the suffering by scoring a third goal.

In his first six games as manager, the Portuguese has only managed to pick up seven points, and his team is conceding goals at an alarming rate.

After United blanked in front of their disgruntled supporters, Martinez seemed to shift the blame to his teammates higher up the field. The Argentinean acknowledged that there were some angry faces in the United dressing room.

“This type of situation has us furious,” Martinez remarked. “Set items in particular require our attention. I have a lot of faith in this staff and team.

“The game is completely different if they don’t get their first goal from set pieces. Today, we lost a lot of opportunities. We must score. We are aware of our obligations, and we must act swiftly to adapt.”

The 27-year-old has received criticism for his recent performances despite playing in 14 Premier League games this season. The Argentina international also acknowledged that he and his teammates need to maintain hope that things will improve in the end.

“I always say in this kind of situation we have to show personality and character,” he stated. “Despite our excellent play, we were unable to score today. We must have faith. We are aware that we must win every game at this club.

“We are aware of the size of this club. Although we are playing so well, we also give up goals, so we need to improve. The expectations are really high, and it’s a process. I am aware of the fans’ impatience with us. Only we have the power to alter it.

“We have to acknowledge that it’s football. We have complete faith that we will succeed in this club. I don’t want to blame a single individual; it’s a process.

“We both win and lose together. Although there is a lot of pressure, we enjoy it. I have a lot of faith in this bunch.

For the first time since the 1989–1990 season, United will continue to linger in the bottom half of the Premier League standings in 13th place past Christmas Day as a result of the outcome.

On Boxing Day, Amorim’s team will travel to Molineux to play relegation-threatened Wolves, who, ironically, defeated Leicester 3-0 on the road in their debut match under new coach Vitor Pereira.

However, the 39-year-old was silent on whether Marcus Rashford would rejoin the team after being left out once more and stated that he did not anticipate an easy ride in his first few months at Old Trafford.

“I always anticipated that [my job] would be difficult, particularly during these hectic months. When asked about Rashford, he responded, “We’re prepared to take on the challenge,” before adding, “We’ll see.”
