WHAT ARE YOU SAYING: Manchester United handed ruthless three word verdict amid Ruben Amorim January transfer warning

For the second straight season, Manchester United lost to Bournemouth 3-0 at Old Trafford, giving Ruben Amorim’s team yet another reality check.

Ruben Amorim is aware that Manchester United is “miles off it” and that they are not “strong enough” to fight at the top end of the Premier League. After United’s 3-0 loss to Bournemouth at home, former Newcastle goalie Shay Given expressed his harsh opinion in a scathing comment.

Antoine Semenyo, Justin Kluivert, and Dean Huijsen all scored goals as the in-form Cherries crushed United at Old Trafford. Despite having more shots and more shots on goal than their opponents, Amorim’s team had a poor afternoon. However, Bournemouth won the most crucial statistic: the scoreline.

The outcome is a crushing blow for United, who after just 17 games are still in 13th place in the Premier League standings, nine points behind fourth-place Nottingham Forest, and 17 behind leaders Liverpool. That disparity between United and Liverpool only serves to highlight how far behind they are currently in the race for the championship.

“I think [Andoni] Iraola is a good example because when we joined we were asking if it’s a good appointment after Gary O’Neil, look at the results, it’s not good enough,” Given, who played in over 700 games during his professional career, stated candidly after the game on BBC’s Match of the Day 2.

“Is the Manchester United team capable of competing at the highest level for the Premier League title? Ruben Amorim is aware that they are far away. You would hope that he would be supported to bring in his own players in January, but there will be difficult months ahead and work to be done.

Amorim, who took Erik ten Hag’s position as United’s permanent coach in November and has only won four of his nine games in command, acknowledged that giving up the opening goal against Bournemouth was a major setback.

“Yeah, without giving the opponent anything, and then one set-piece makes us more nervous, all of the stadium, I felt it,” he remarked during his post-match press conference. It’s quite disappointing, and there’s a lot of nervousness from the first minute, which is fair given the situation.

“After that, we created numerous scoring opportunities, but it’s really difficult when they score two goals, like against Tottenham. It seems like everyone in the stadium—fans, players, and everyone else—is suffering after that third goal. Although it’s a difficult time, we must accept it and be ready for the next match.
