The CDM position has been a persistent issue for Manchester United. Former manager Erik ten Hag attempted to resolve this issue by acquiring Casemiro from Real Madrid in 2022.

The Brazilian exhibited commendable achievements throughout his inaugural season at Old Trafford. Since that time, the 32-year-old has experienced a deterioration, prompting the Red Devils to recruit Manuel Ugarte from Paris Saint-Germain last summer.

The Uruguayan has commenced this season with promise; however, United requires additional depth in the midfield sector. Christian Eriksen is in the concluding months of his current contract, making his departure next summer probable, while reports indicate that the Red Devils are amenable to permitting Casemiro to exit the club.

Kobbie Mainoo and Ugarte are the two reliable options available to new head coach Ruben Amorim, although Mainoo has not yet reached the age of 20.

According to the Italian outlet TMW, Manchester United is eager to acquire Atalanta midfielder Ederson, having been impressed by his recent performances in Serie A, and is now exerting increased pressure to secure the Brazilian’s signature.

The recruiting team at United has authorized his hiring; nevertheless, both the player and the Italian club are opposed to a January transfer, making a transaction feasible only next summer.

Atalanta is unwilling to consider offers below £49.7 million [€60 million], as the South American player is under contract until 2027 at Gewiss Stadium.

Ederson is capable of playing as a defensive midfielder and is also proficient in the box-to-box role. He has been playing as a dual midfield pivot at La Dea under Gian Piero Gasperini.

The South American led his team to victory in the Europa League last season and has been assisting them in their pursuit of the title this campaign.
