Manchester United is striving to acquire Paris Saint-Germain left-back Nuno Mendes this month as Ruben Amorim seeks his inaugural signing at the club, according to sources. Amorim has revealed that the Red Devils will endeavor to finalize transactions and initiate their reconstruction early in the January transfer window.

The Portuguese head coach has realized his urgent requirement for reinforcements through challenging experiences during the initial weeks of his tenure at Old Trafford.

He has disclosed his intention to begin restructuring the squad assembled by Erik ten Hag before to the January deadline, contingent upon the emergence of a suitable chance.

Amorim elucidated last week, “When the window is open, we can attempt to take action, and we will endeavor to do so.”

However, I believe that in the forthcoming weeks, we will have increased time for training, which will enable us to enhance our skills; that is the sole method.

“We engaged in several games without training; now we will have increased opportunities for development. The current setting is deteriorating due to significant losses, necessitating comprehensive management of all aspects.

Amorim subsequently remained reticent regarding the specific positions he aimed to strengthen this winter, however reiterated his anticipation of transfer activity.

He stated, “I will retain that information regarding the positions United is pursuing for myself.” However, we will endeavor to take action.

A left wing-back compatible with his 3-4-3 style and a striker have been prominently identified as two priority areas for enhancement in 2025.

Since his arrival in November, Amorim has relied on Diogo Dalot to assume the previous job. Luke Shaw remains impeded by injuries, whereas Tyrell Malacia is experiencing difficulties following an 18-month hiatus.

The Telegraph reports that the 39-year-old intends to address the issue by reuniting with Mendes in Manchester this month.

He collaborated with the 22-year-old at Sporting prior to PSG’s acquisition for £34 million in 2022 and considers him the perfect match.

PSG is allegedly encountering difficulties in convincing Mendes to prolong his existing contract at the Parc des Princes, which has entered its last 18 months.

The Ligue 1 champions reportedly engaged in multiple negotiations with United but are optimistic that he will not request a transfer to a club not participating in the Champions League.

Fabrizio Romano indicates that Mendes is included on Amorim’s shortlist alongside Bournemouth’s Milos Kerkez and Lecce’s Patrick Dorgu.

The 20-year-old Dane is not considered as highly ranked as Mendes and Kerkez but offers a more economical alternative.
