The incident occurred after Havertz fell to the ground, claiming a foul by Maguire, and referee Andy Madley awarded Arsenal a penalty. Maguire was furious with the decision and was caught on camera mouthing an expletive-laden comment at Havertz. The United defender was subsequently held back by his teammates as he attempted to confront Havertz, and he was eventually shown a yellow card for his involvement in the melee. The penalty was ultimately missed by Martin Odegaard, with United goalkeeper Altay Bayindir making a superb save to deny the Arsenal midfielder. The match ended 1-1 after 90 minutes, with United eventually emerging victorious in a penalty shootout.
One of the many heated moments that occurred during a violent match was the confrontation that took place between Maguire and Havertz. After receiving a second yellow card, Diogo Dalot of United was shown a red card, while Gabriel of Arsenal was also handed a booking for his involvement in the confrontation with Maguire.
