“After his performance against Tottenham, do you think I’ll ever start him in another crucial match? I have a reputation to uphold here at Liverpool, and one player cannot come in and undo everything I’ve built!” These were the strong words of Liverpool manager Arne Slot, directed at a player reportedly responsible for costing the team key games.

For Arne Slot, the manager of Liverpool, the previous week had been a difficult one. After suffering a crushing defeat at the hands of Tottenham, the pressure was already mounting, and the most of the criticism was being focused at a single player, Maximilian “Max” Rieder.
Max’s recent performances have been disappointing, despite the fact that he was formerly considered a potential talent and an important component of the club’s future. Liverpool’s chances of winning the championship were in jeopardy as a result of a string of costly mistakes, bad decisions, and a lack of effort.
Arne decided to concentrate on the tactical board that was in front of him when he was sitting in his office, which was surrounded by the weight of Liverpool’s rich past.
A mixture of resolve and worry could be seen on Max’s face as he entered the room as the door slowly opened. He was well aware that this talk would not be simple.
Arne remarked, “Sit down, Max,” without glancing up at the person.
In an effort to keep his anxiety under control, Max consented. After many weeks of poor performance, he experienced a decline in his typical self-assurance, and he now had the impression that he was following a route that was fraught with danger.
When Arne finally turned around to face him, his attitude was one of sternness and disillusionment. There was a brief pause in the conversation. “After your performance against Tottenham,” he started, his voice calm yet cutting, “do you really think I can rely on you for another crucial match?” he said at the beginning of the conversation. It is imperative that I do not allow a single player to undermine all that I have laboured to establish, as my reputation is at risk here.
Max had a sinking feeling in his gut. Even though he was aware that his errors had resulted in financial losses, hearing it from Arne was a sour reminder of the truth. This was not just about a single terrible performance; rather, it was about his whole future at the club, the future that he had previously envisioned and worked hard to obtain.
“Max, you were on the pitch,” Arne said, now walking at a moderate pace. “However, rather than playing with the zeal and intellect that this squad is famed for, you turned out to be a burden.
You’ve been given a lot of opportunities, but you didn’t deliver when we were playing Tottenham. That is something that I cannot allow to occur again, especially considering everything that is at stake.
Max had the intention of speaking up, providing an apology, and explaining how diligently he was striving to restore his form; nevertheless, the words remained lodged in his mouth.
He was well aware that Arne was not keen on making explanations. Although the management had acknowledged his potential, it was hard to ignore the fact that his performances were becoming increasingly problematic.
Arne’s stare became more resolute as he leaned forward. The situation is not only about you, Max. What matters is the heritage of this organisation as well as the squad. If you are unable to concentrate and complete your tasks, you will have to look for another location to do so.
When Max realised how terrible the situation was, he took a deep breath and swallowed hard. The fact that his time at Liverpool might end just as suddenly as it had begun was something that he was aware of. Despite the fact that he had been presented with possibilities that the majority of players could only dream of, he was on the point of losing everything.
In the end, Max remarked, “I’ll fix this,” employing a tone that was kind but determined. “You have my word. I will put forth more effort and put everything back in order.
Arne offered a little nod, but his demeanour remained unmoved throughout the whole exchange. “Max, I really hope, you do. Nevertheless, I am unable to take any more chances until you demonstrate your worth on the pitch. Keep in mind that you are not truly irreplaceable.
After leaving the office, Max left with the words of Arne still echoing in his head. While he was walking to the locker room, he pondered whether or not he would be able to regain the trust that he had previously lost. Is it possible that he may find a way to rejoin the team? Is it possible that his errors caused him to lose everything that he had fought so hard to achieve at Liverpool?
