After being taken off the pitch by a stretcher during the first half of Arsenal’s FA Cup match against Manchester United, Gabriel Jesus added to the growing number of injuries that the club is experiencing.

Due to a hamstring injury, the Gunners are already without the services of Bukayo Saka, as well as Ethan Nwaneri, who was supposed to take his place. This is in addition to the injuries that were sustained by the defenders Ben Whitem, Takehiro Tomiyasu, and Riccardo Calafiori recently.

The game was started by Jesus against the Red Devils, but just before halftime, he collided with Bruno Fernandes, the captain of United, who was attempting to get a hold of the ball on the edge of the box. Furthermore, while Fernandes yelled for a free kick, Jesus was the one who endured the more long-lasting effects of the incident.

After being removed off the pitch of play and transported directly down the tunnel, the Brazilian appeared to be in a condition of complete and utter devastation, hiding his face with a shirt.

Jesus, who had been acquired from Manchester City in the summer of 2022, had just recently re-established himself as a member of Mikel Arteta’s starting eleven, putting his early season struggles in the past.

A total of six goals have been scored by the 27-year-old player since he broke his goalless streak for the season at the end of October. Three of those goals have been scored in his most recent four Premier League matches.

After the striker scored a hat trick against Crystal Palace in December, Arteta recognised that he had returned to his previous level of performance. In his words, “I couldn’t be happier for him.”

When he scored three goals today, the three different types of goals that he scored, and the many actions that he was involved in, he appeared to be very sharp. This is because it has been a long period of time since he has scored any goals.

The fact that we are able to rely on a player of such high calibre is a wonderful occurrence for both him and the team. The fact that Gabi is performing at that level is a significant asset for us. The fact that Gabi is again performing at his highest level sends a powerful message to the team. Consistency is the key at this point.”

As a result of the injury, there will be an increased demand for Mikel Arteta to enter the transfer market between now and the end of this month. To this point, Arteta has been adamant that he will only do so, if a player that can immediately improve them becomes available.

“Someone that can impact the team immediately with the performance and bring something that we don’t have,” he said. “That can be really hard in this market. We always have talks about how we can better the team.

“The circumstances changed because we’ve had some injuries to some top players, but it has to be someone who can make a difference. We have certain limitations and we have lots of gaps and things you have to cover. It’s also about the players and whether you can afford them.”
