Leila Pereira, the president of Palmeiras, has previously responded to Manchester United in a straightforward manner on Richard Rios.

After adding Joshua Zirkzee and defender Leny Yoro this summer, Erik ten Hag’s team is now trying to add a new midfield player. Manuel Ugarte of Paris Saint-Germain is a possibility, but the French powerhouses are asking for a cool £59 million.

United also has admiration for Joao Neves of Benfica, but it appears that he will sign a deal with PSG for less than his £101 million release clause. Rios, who gained notice for his remarkable exploits in the Copa America, steps in at this point.

The 24-year-old was instrumental in their run to the championship game, when Argentina narrowly defeated them 1-0. Rios and James Rodriguez had a solid working relationship during the competition, and Rios excelled in their 5-0 triumph over Panama.

He is also a vital member of Palmeiras’ midfield and Abel Ferreira’s first choice. According to a Goal Brazil report, United has inquired about a possible contract with the player’s entourage.

The Reds are reportedly “readying” a £17 million bid for the Colombian. Goal-related sources, however, assert that Palmeiras ‘have yet to receive’ a formal proposal for Rios and are unwilling to consider any offers made during this window.

After recently authorising the departures of highly-regarded academy products Endrick, Luis Guilherme, and Estevao Willian, the Brazilian team is unwilling to lose any more players. Regarding transfers, President Pereira has stated her position clearly.

“Last year we sold Endrick, we just sold Luis Guilherme, and we are in advanced negotiations to sell Estevao,” she stated last month. Since most teams must sell in order to reinvest, several of these attributes are extremely important to Palmeiras.

We had offers for a few of our players, but I turned them down because they would have an effect on how well we played. First and foremost is the athletic performance, but certainly, I had to sell. I’m speaking, not Abel, and this year there won’t be any more sales.

Additionally, Abel, the head of Verdao, stated: “We have already made a lot of money with sales.” For the pitch, we now need to concentrate on options.
