Immediately following Liverpool’s victory over Southampton in the Premier League, Arne Slot admitted that he had made a mistake in his selection process.

As Liverpool continued their pursuit of the Premier League championship on Saturday afternoon, they brought Southampton to Anfield to continue their assault on the title.

In a match that was supposed to be a routine victory for the Reds, who were currently in first place in the table, Southampton surprised the crowd by going into halftime with a 1-0 lead.

In order to give the visitors the lead, Will Smallbone took advantage of a rare mistake that occurred between Alisson Becker and Virgil van Dijk.

On the other hand, Liverpool came out of their slumber in the second half, and within ten minutes of the restart, goals scored by Darwin Nunez and Mohamed Salah brought the score to 2-1.

As a result of Salah’s third penalty kick, the Reds were able to secure a 3-1 victory, extending their lead to 16 points before Arsenal’s match against Manchester United on Sunday.

Arne Slot has admitted that he made a botched selection for Liverpool’s match against Southampton.
Following the game, Slot acknowledged that he may have made a mistake by starting Dominik Szoboszlai, who was substituted out at halftime. Slot’s comments came after the match.

Through the use of TeamTalk, the Dutchman provided the following explanation: “If I had the opportunity to do it all over again, I would have started it differently than I started it today; however, you are not aware of this in advance.”

When I am sitting here and talking about Dominik, I always come to the conclusion that he is a machine. He is able to keep going, running and running and running without stopping.

The next thing that Slot said was, “It was possibly the first time this season that I saw a different energy from him.” This may be considered typical. Considering how much he contributes to each and every game, it’s possible that I made a mistake by playing him. Even though he only played 45 minutes, he is more rested for the upcoming week than he would be if I played him for 90 minutes. This is the good news.

The fact that Slot is currently in the lead at the top of the table by 16 points does not cause him to become overconfident.

He concluded by saying: “It’s 16 for now but that can be down to seven by the time we play Everton in a few weeks [Arsenal have three Premier League games before Liverpool next play in the top-flight].”

The second leg of Liverpool’s Champions League round of 16 match against Paris Saint-Germain will take place on Tuesday night. Liverpool will be back in action when they play Paris Saint-Germain.

Following Harvey Elliott’s late goal at the Parc des Princes, which secured a 1-0 victory for the Reds, the Reds currently hold a narrow lead in the standings.
