Arsenal: Charlie Patino set to leave after first-team frustrations

Charlie Patino, a young player for Arsenal, is expected to leave for a foreign club this summer as his chances of playing for Mikel Arteta diminish.

Despite his stellar reputation in Arsenal’s development system, the 20-year-old midfielder has failed to earn a spot in Arteta’s first squad plans.

Patino will enter the summer with just one year left on his contract; he is currently on loan to Swansea of the Championship.

Ethan Nwaneri, a 17-year-old who signed his first professional deal last month, appears to be getting a shot at the first team and will give him a run for his money at Arsenal.

Arsenal will be able to cash in on Patino before his contract expires this summer if Arteta approves his departure, since he is being pursued by clubs in Spain.

Since Patino’s father Jules is a Spanish citizen, he has a better chance of relocating to La Liga, where clubs will be able to sidestep the difficulties that have arisen since Brexit.

In other European countries, his small stature and technical abilities are likely to be more valued, therefore this opens up additional possibilities for him.

After making his Arsenal debut in the 2021 Carabao Cup match against Sunderland, Patino went on to score in his first of two outings for the club.

He hasn’t made an appearance for Swansea since January 1, despite a more fruitful tenure last season at Blackpool.
