Arsenal: Harry Kane issues verdict on Bukayo Saka and ‘clearest penalty I’ve ever seen’

In a 2-2 tie between Arsenal and Bayern Munich, Harry Kane conceded that Bukayo Saka had a penalty claim, but he also said that the German powerhouses had earlier been denied “the clearest penalty I’ve ever seen.”

In a nail-biting Champions League quarterfinal at the Emirates Stadium, the Gunners believed they had a chance to win it in the last seconds when Saka took a tumble after clashing with goalkeeper Manuel Neuer. Next week, they play the second leg.

Reviewing the action again, it appeared that referee Glenn Nyberg was correct not to call a penalty. Following the final whistle, Gunners icon Ian Wright concurred, although Martin Keown and Rio Ferdinand were of the opinion that Arsenal deserved a penalty.

If that were our team, I would want the penalty,” Kane said in an interview with Amazon Prime after the game when asked about the call. However, the vote is tied.

It was contact, but it was too late, according to Bayern head coach Thomas Tuchel. There was no longer any ball. And there he meets Manu. All of a sudden, the official blew the whistle. At that point, nobody had a clue.

When Gabriel received the ball inside the area shortly after David Raya had restarted play with a goal kick, both Kane and Tuchel were more disturbed by Nyberg’s decision not to give Bayern a penalty.

Since “it’s a kid’s mistake” and “he will not give a penalty like this in a quarter-final,” Tuchel said after the game that the referee had seen the incident but chose not to grant the penalty.

According to Tuchel, this is a terrible justification since it implies he is passing judgment on our handballs. Someone’s error—a child, an adult, or someone else entirely.
