Arsenal was told during the Champions League draw in Nyon on Friday that they would get to play in the semifinals against Real Madrid or Manchester City as a reward for making it past the round of 16 for the first time in fourteen years. However, they will first need to overcome the formidable challenge of a two-leg match against Bayern Munich.

Arsenal’s most recent Champions League experiences have been tainted by losses to Bayern, as the German champions have won each of their last three games by a combined score of 5-1. In fact, in the eight games that have been played between the two teams since 2012, Bayern has accumulated an overall record of 21-9.

Muller was involved in every one of these meetings between the two teams save one, and it is expected that he will be in the game that takes place next month. The 34-year-old’s involvement in this game goes beyond just that, as he will be facing off against his German international teammate Havertz. Muller and Havertz have played together for Germany eighteen times. Muller used social media following the announcement of the draw to criticize Havertz ahead of their upcoming fight, which he has expressed his excitement for.

“Kai Havertz, my friend, I am waiting for you,” he wrote in a social media post addressing Kai Havertz. I believe the draw is strong. These are two excellent teams, and these are two excellent stadiums and towns. It will not be easy, but my optimism never wavers. Salutations to you, Gunners!

Arsenal will be playing a number of players who they are already familiar with during the upcoming season. Harry Kane and Eric Dier will get the chance to go back to England, where they have played a major part of their careers with Tottenham Hotspur, in order to further enhance the storyline of the game.
