After leaving Arsenal, Mohamed Elneny, an Egypt international, has signed with the massive Emirati club Al Jazira Club.

Elneny’s eight years with the Emirates came to an end last summer when his contract with the club expired. Since then, he has been without a club.

The 32-year-old is presently heading Egypt’s U23 national team at the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris after putting on strong displays in their opening two matches against Uzbekistan and the Dominican Republic.

Elneny chose to return to the Middle East and sign for Al Jazira on a free transfer, despite rumours that he was being courted by a number of Turkish teams.

The news came from the Emirati team during Egypt’s Olympic match against Spain, which Elneny had started and was currently leading the Pharaohs to a historic victory.

Elneny joins the team as its third summer addition, following Brazilian left-back Vitor Vargas and Mohamed Atiq, as they look to improve on their eighth-place result from the previous year.

The team is led by French manager Grégory Dufrennes and features a number of well-known players, such as 2020 MLS MVP Alejandro Pozuelo and former Man City and Netherlands defender Karim Rekik.

Along with Neeskens Kebano and Aboubakar Kamara, two former Fulham players, Fernando is another ex-international from Brazil.

Elneny will arrive following his time competing for Egypt in the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris. The Young Pharaohs have advanced to the quarterfinals, which will take place on Friday, August 2.
