Following the expiration of his contract at London Colney, Manchester United is considering the possibility of signing Arsenal development striker Chido Obi-Martin. The 16-year-old had an exceptional season for the youth Gunners, scoring a total of 10 goals in a 14-3 victory over Liverpool in November of last year.

He visited United’s Carrington training facilities this week, according to The Athletic, and talks about a transfer are currently in the preliminary stages. It has been reported that Arsenal has offered to prolong Obi-Martin’s contract with the team, with the understanding that he will get a scholarship under the current agreement until he is 17 and then sign a professional contract.

According to reports, Manchester United is among the teams interested in signing Obi-Martin, but Manchester City is not one of them. Obi-Martin has chosen to leave Arsenal. The forward, who has scored 29 goals in 17 league games for the under-18s, is leaving in excellent form.

Jack Wilshere, the manager of Arsenal’s under-18 team, praised the player’s ability in March following Obi-Martin’s four goals against Crystal Palace. “A striker needs his teammates, midfielders, and defenders to score four goals, but it’s the hardest thing in football, and to do it four times as an under-16 in under-18s football takes some real personality,” the player stated, expressing his pride in the team.

Not only is he improving that aspect of his game, but also his link-up play and his ability to press and create the tempo for us. I’m content with where he is right now, but there are still things to work on and improve on.”

He continued in April, saying, “Having a goal scorer like Chido, who is currently on fire and seems to put everything in, helps.”

“He has put in a lot of work over the past few years, particularly in the last six weeks that he has been with us at Sobha Realty Training Centre, and he is now reaping the benefits of his labour. However, we also have to give the team a tonne of credit for providing him.”

Only months after breaking Folarin Balogun’s record for most goals in the club’s history as an under-18 player, it looks that Arsenal may lose the talented attacker.
