Breaking News: Erik ten Hag breaks silence on Man Utd’s attempts to sign Matthijs de Ligt

Erik ten Hag has discussed the possibility of Matthijs de Ligt joining Manchester United.

Now that the summer transfer window has opened, United has been working nonstop to bolster their roster.

United had already finalised agreements to acquire teenage defender Leny Yoro from French Ligue 1 team Lille and attacker Joshua Zirkzee from Bologna this month.

A wide range of names, including Jarrad Branthwaite, Adrien Rabiot, Manuel Ugarte, and De Ligt, have also been connected to the Red Devils.

There were rumours that United and De Ligt had reached a personal terms agreement during the Euro 2024 competition.

Ten Hag, the manager of United, mentioned the club’s intentions to sign the Bayern Munich player in a recent interview.

Ten Hag remarked AD, citing transfer expert Fabrizio Romano: “It’s unclear if Matthijs de Ligt will make the trip. I’m familiar with him.

“Two years ago, I was hoping to sign him, but he had already committed to joining Bayern.”

“Believe it or not, his name did not come from me in the process,” the Dutchman continued.

When questioned about De Ligt’s possible transfer to Old Trafford this month, United striker Rasmus Hojlund said, “That [move] has nothing to do with me, so I can’t answer that question [about De Ligt signing].”

Still, he is a capable defender.

Zirkzee explained his decision to come to United by saying, “It wasn’t a difficult one.” Even though I adore Bologna, Manchester United gave me a really positive vibe. I have no doubt that the scheduled events will likewise transpire.
