Erik ten Hag, the manager of Manchester United, has been targeted once again by Cristiano Ronaldo.

Cristiano Ronaldo has taken aim at Erik ten Hag, the manager of Manchester United, claiming the Dutchman’s outlook is impeding the team’s prospects of victory.

At the beginning of the 2022–2023 season, the 39-year-old played half a season at Old Trafford under Ten Hag. However, his second tenure at Old Trafford ended quite unexpectedly when it became apparent that the manager was not planning on keeping him. Ronaldo consequently signed with Al Nassr, a Saudi Pro League team, in January 2023.

However, the five-time Ballon d’Or winner has launched a new attack on Ten Hag, who has presided over two losses from the opening three Premier League games of the season, almost two years after departing United.

“It is no longer my problem to show that I am correct or wrong. Ronaldo stated on the Rio Ferdinand Presents podcast, “I say what I have to say and for me it’s done.” To tell the truth, though, my wishes for Manchester are really my wishes for myself. The best team they can put together, once more, and I adore that team—you know, I’m not the type of guy who forgets the past.

“But like I said to you, Manchester, I think they should reconstruct everything. The coach claims that they are not able to challenge for the League and Champions League titles.

“You cannot claim, Manchester United coach, that you will not put up a fight to win the League or the Champions League. You have to be able to psychologically state, “Listen, maybe we’re not cut out for this,” but I can’t guarantee that. We are going to give it a shot. You must make an effort.”

Ronaldo’s second spell at United ended badly after he re-signed with the team in 2021. He was forced to train with the under-21 team in preparation for storming down the tunnel after Ten Hag did not choose him for a 2-0 victory over Tottenham Hotspur in October.

As a result, Ten Hag used a pre-game press conference to remind Ronaldo of his behaviour at Old Trafford, and Ronaldo was suspended for the Reds’ encounter against Chelsea the following weekend.

“He also has to be aware that you always get [judged] by the moment and how you are acting today,” added the Dutchman. “It is about today, especially in elite sports. Age or reputation are irrelevant. It’s common for great athletes to be evaluated on their performance in the moment.

All of us, not just Cristiano, as a group, as a manager, and as a club, need to be conscious of that.

Ronaldo would only appear in two more Premier League games for United after that disciplinary action before relocating to Saudi Arabia early in the new year.
