Breaking News: Erik ten Hag’s threat to Sir Jim Ratcliffe before he was forced to U-turn on Man Utd boss

In a surprising development, Erik ten Hag has informed Manchester United of what would happen if Sir Jim Ratcliffe fired him, and he is currently in negotiations to extend his contract.

Erik ten Hag gave Sir Jim Ratcliffe a warning before turning on the Manchester United manager.

Ten Hag will finally remain employed at Old Trafford, ending months of rumours. It was in jeopardy following a dismal second season in charge, with the unexpected FA Cup victory over rivals Manchester City providing a significant lift to an eighth-place Premier League result.

Ten Hag was supposed to be fired regardless of the outcome, according to reports that surfaced both before and after that 2-1 victory at Wembley last month. As a result, he faced some uncomfortable questions from the media after the game, particularly in his BBC interview with Alan Shearer and Gary Lineker.

Later, in response to the speculation over his future, the Dutchman warned the Red Devils management that if they decide he is not suited to continue, he will find success with another team.

During his news conference, he responded defiantly, saying, “If they don’t want me any more, I go somewhere else and win trophies, that’s what I’ve done my whole career.” It seems that the ultimatum to “back me or sack me” was taken seriously.

Sir Dave Brailsford, Ratcliffe’s right-hand man, oversaw a review that lasted more than two weeks when he took office. It appears that both the effort the team put in to defeat City and his intended replacement, Gareth Southgate, stepping down from the position, had an impact.

Ratcliffe was forced to dismiss Southgate as a possibility as they intensified their preparations for the upcoming season because Southgate would not allow his attention to stray from England’s Euro 2024 campaign.

Ten Hag made the point that his alternative was to stand behind him, and that’s just what they’re doing as contract negotiations get under way. His current contract expires next year, but the club has the option to extend it for an additional year.

He understands perfectly well that the pressure is by no means off. As he stated in his last media appearance of the season, improvements are required for next season.

“We are winning titles and the team is improving. It’s not bad to win two trophies in two years. It’s not terrible to have three finals, but we must continue. It doesn’t satisfy me,” he remarked.
