Following the Republic of Ireland’s 5-0 thumping at Wembley, Roy Keane joked that his daughter’s marriage is “not done and dusted yet” while congratulating his future son-in-law Taylor Harwood-Bellis on scoring his first England goal.
Shortly after coming off the bench, 22-year-old Harwood-Bellis scored his first goal, capping a week in which his engagement to Keane’s daughter Leah made headlines.

When broadcaster Mark Pougatch revealed that Harwood-Bellis was his future son-in-law, the notoriously strict Keane, who captained both Manchester United and the Republic of Ireland, couldn’t help but remark while working as an ITV pundit at Wembley.

He joked, “It’s not done and dusted yet.” “Hey, things can change in the Keane household very quickly!”

Southampton’s centre-back In the final camp before Thomas Tuchel takes over, Harwood-Bellis, who was Lee Carsley’s captain at the Under-21 level, was called up for the first time as a senior for the Nations League matches against Greece and Ireland.

After his call-up, the former Manchester City prospect had been reluctant to talk about Keane, but he admitted that he gets “a lot of advice” from the former midfielder, albeit not before the Ireland match.

Following a close first half, Ireland collapsed as Harry Kane scored the penalty kick and Anthony Gordon, Jarrod Bowen, and Conor Gallagher each scored their first England goals. Liam Scales was sent off for bringing down Jude Bellingham in the box.

After England opened with Kyle Walker and Marc Guehi in defence, Harwood-Bellis entered the game as a second-half substitution. Commentator Sam Matterface noted his engagement to Keane’s daughter Leah during his debut.

Immediately following his original jest, Keane added some kind words for the centre-back: “It’s good for him to make his debut and he’s a bit of a goal threat.” He is a good child, and his family has done a fantastic job.

In 2023, Harwood Bellis led England’s Under-21 team to the European Championship championship, while his sister Becky played youth basketball for Great Britain.
