Erik ten Hag’s future as manager of Manchester United is still up for debate, however calls have been made regarding members of his staff ahead of the 2024–2025 Premier League season.

Four stars at Manchester United have been handed new contracts, while seven players, including Anthony Martial and Raphael Varane, are set to depart the team this summer.

With stars’ futures now certain, the Red Devils revealed their customary retained list on Wednesday afternoon. The French pair Varane and Martial had previously declared their departures.

In the season’s penultimate game, the two said a tearful goodbye to Old Trafford. Despite this, they still had time to enjoy the team’s FA Cup victory at Wembley.

Brandon Williams, an academy graduate, left with Varane and Martial. The defender made over 50 appearances for the team before spending the previous season on loan at Ipswich.

Charlie McNeill, Marcus Lawrence, and Kie Plumley, three other academy grads, are also expected to go. Man United issued the following statement regarding the young players leaving: “The Academy is proud of all our departing young players throughout the age groups.”

They will receive a customised aftercare package, help in landing contracts at other teams, and a permanent connection to Manchester United.”

On the opposite end of the range, Tom Huddlestone, a seasoned midfielder, is also leaving. In August 2022, the 37-year-old relocated to Old Trafford to serve as the Red Devils’ under-21 team’s player-coach.

Even though there are a number of exits, Man United has revealed that a number of players may yet decide to stay longer. Tom Heaton and Jonny Evans are negotiating potential new deals.

New deals have also been extended to Omari Forson and Shola Shoretire. Alvaro Fernandez, a fellow young player, will depart, though, having done enough to earn a permanent transfer to Benfica.

Given the uncertain futures of some players, it appears unlikely that the changes made to the Old Trafford dressing room would end there. While Jadon Sancho’s position at the team remains to be decided, Casemiro has been linked to a move away.

He was on loan at Borussia Dortmund for the second part of the previous season, and he contributed to the German team’s Champions League final appearance. They want to keep him for the upcoming term, but a permanent move is challenging due to his high pay.

Man United authorities and Sancho’s representatives will hold talks to determine the next course of action. After an outburst with manager Erik ten Hag in public, he hasn’t played for the team.
