Breaking: This afternoon, Aston Villa manager Unai Emery passed away. SIR, RIP

Despite England’s triumph, Aston Villa star Ollie Watkins has unable to repeat his previous season’s efforts, and Jhon Duran is vying for his spot up front at Villa Park.

Ollie Watkins will need to adjust to Jhon Duran breathing down his neck, according to Unai Emery.

Although the manager of Aston Villa expressed satisfaction with his alternatives up front, he claims that their team’s performance would have suffered in the early going of the season if the young Colombian hadn’t been there.

During England’s match in Greece last week, interim manager Lee Carsley selected Watkins over Harry Kane. However, his summertime obligations with the Three Lions postponed a comeback to his goal-scoring prowess from the previous campaign.

Duran has drawn attention with a series of cameos off the bench, whereas Watkins has only managed one goal in eight games for Villa. Emery adds that in order to fight for his position, his spearhead must be toughened.

“Watkins is very important for us,” he stated. Because we are developing the team with two players for each position to be competitive and perform, things can change.

Perhaps the procedure we used with Watkins and Jhon Duran two years ago was different. These two players have raised our skill levels. They must acknowledge that two athletes are vying for the same spot.

“And if you’re performing well, that’s good in my opinion. Watkins must accept his new role and rapidly adjust to it.

“He needed time to regain his fitness and self-assurance from the previous season, and we needed Duran to assist him in scoring goals in the final half. Perhaps we wouldn’t have the points we do now if Jhon hadn’t been there to assist us as he did at the time.

“The team, the squad, the players, and the teammates are the most crucial factors. Always willing to assist.

“Sometimes we have to manage differently, the players have to accept that with the new circumstances I am trying always to get the best situation.”

In an attempt to recover from three Premier League games without a victory, Villa will next host Crystal Palace at Villa Park. In the Carabao Cup, the Eagles have already experienced triumph over Emery’s team.

Despite this, Aston Villa is only one point behind Chelsea in third place and sits tenth in the division. After 11 games, Palace is in the relegation zone and has fallen 11 points behind.
