While Fabrizio Romano has refuted the rumours, Alberto Pereiro has advised Andriy Lunin is closing in on joining Chelsea from Real Madrid close the summer transfer window.

Andriy Lunin is reportedly the target of Chelsea, according to Spanish journalist Alberto Pereiro on Onda Cero. The Blues are searching the market for a custodian during the summer transfer window, and Pereiro has hinted that they may be getting close to signing the Real Madrid custodian.

Reputable Italian reporter Fabrizio Romano, nevertheless, has refuted rumours that Lunin is close to signing a summer transfer agreement with Chelsea. The West London club, he said, has not made any contact to the Merengues, with Kepa Arrizabalaga being the only custodian under consideration.

The story of Andriy Lunin

Following his breakout season at Real Madrid, Andriy Lunin has brought his stuttering career back to life. The Ukrainian international became increasingly irate throughout the first five years at Santiago Bernabeu after failing to make an impression on Real Madrid’s first team.

But Thibaut Courtois and Kepa Arrizabalaga’s unfortunate injuries strengthened his cause, and he didn’t turn back. In 31 appearances in all competitions, the 25-year-old racked up nearly 3,000 minutes of playing time while conceding 32 goals and maintaining 12 clean sheets. Despite not participating in the UCL final, Lunin was crucial to Real Madrid’s victories in both La Liga and the UEFA Champions League.

Andriy Lunin, with Courtois fit and eager to go, has an uncertain future at Real Madrid in the summer transfer window. Los Blancos would thus like to lock the Ukrainian shot-stopper to a new deal, but he might also think about starting a fresh adventure. Such circumstances have not gone unseen; numerous prestigious teams, like Chelsea, have paid close attention to them.

Is London calling?

Given that Djordje Petrovic and Robert Sanchez haven’t shown to be the uncontested first choice goalkeepers, Chelsea’s interest in Lunin makes sense. Furthermore, Kepa Arrizabalaga’s future at Stamford Bridge is not bright. Lunin is therefore a realistic aim for Chelsea.

It would be interesting to see, though, if the Blues are able to finalise the agreement to acquire Andriy Lunin’s services or if Fabrizio Romano is right in his evaluation of the circumstances. In the meantime, the Real Madrid custodian is attracting interest from other elite Premier League teams, such as Manchester City and Arsenal.
