FINAL DEAL: Manchester United defeated Liverpool in the race to sign a £60 million superstar. A five-year contract was reached, and an announcement will be made tomorrow morning.

Man Utd appears to have selected Manuel Ugarte to strengthen their defensive midfield position. Over the past 12 months, Casemiro has appeared to be a ghost of the commanding player he once was, and the Red Devils need an option.

Ugarte has been benched in favour of Vitinha since joining PSG last summer because he hasn’t been able to win over Luis Enrique. The Uruguayan has no place at Parc de Princes because the Portuguese midfielder is so good at what he does.

We reported on a Le10Sport report last month stating that Manchester United intended to submit an offer for Youssouf Fofana, the midfield player for AS Monaco. The Red Devils were in an excellent position to entice the 25-year-old, but nothing has happened.

Football Transfers reports that if Man Utd and Ugarte cannot agree, Man Utd may return for Fofana. For an offer of about £29.5 million, the French club is willing to sell him, making him a reasonably priced replacement for the Red Devils.

Fofana contributes a great deal of physicality. Although he may not have Ugarte’s skill with the ball, he has far better defensive awareness than the former Sporting CP midfielder. Here, we are discussing two very dissimilar midfield profiles.

Didier Deschamps’ decision to call Fofana up to nearly every France team shows that managers always value his contributions. When a game is about to end that could otherwise become tense, the manager always loves to bring on Fofana.

Although the 25-year-old is available for a very reasonable price, Man Utd should pass on signing him. Since Fofana lacks technical skill, it is unlikely that she will be an improvement over Casemiro. It is imperative that the club prioritise Ugarte.

We may never know, but this could just be the Red Devils using Fofana’s name as a negotiating chip to force PSG to choose Ugarte. In any case, our only wish is that Ugarte plays for the Red Devils the next season.
