Ex-Blue shares honest opinion on Enzo Maresca’s appointment

Following Mauricio Pochettino’s departure, former Chelsea player Gary Cahill has offered his opinions on the selection of Enzo Maresca as the team’s new manager.

After just one season in charge, the Blues announced the Argentine’s departure last month, and they appointed Maresca without delay.

With a five-year deal at Stamford Bridge, the 44-year-old, who led Leicester City to the Championship triumph the previous season, will have pressure to win trophies for the team and get the Blues back into the Champions League.

Regarding the appointment with Maresca, Cahill expresses
Since Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital took ownership in May 2022, Maresca is Chelsea’s fourth permanent manager, despite the fact that their project hasn’t really taken off.

Maresca has more work ahead of him than any of the prior appointments, as heads will need to step up to the club’s higher roles otherwise.

Cahill believes Maresca needs more time since he is accustomed to the pressure and expectations of Chelsea after winning the Premier League and Champions League during his tenure there.

“Obviously, time will tell. As we’ve stated numerous times this season and last, there’s a lot of change at the football club right now, and it takes time,” he said to Sky Sports.
