Real Madrid is supposedly in the lead to finalise a £127 million deal for Florian Wirtz in the summer of 2025, meaning Manchester City has seemingly lost momentum in the competition.

German prospect Wirtz, one of the young standout stars of Bayer Leverkusen’s undefeated Bundesliga title-winning campaign, is reportedly drawing attention from around the continent as he guns for home triumph in Euro 2024. Many sources have mentioned City as a possible destination, but the most recent information is not favourable for the Blues.

Two deals, according to Marca, will allow the 21-year-old to finish moving from the BayArena to the Santiago Bernabeu—not the Etihad Stadium—in less than a year.

The player, his agents, and Leverkusen, his current club, have reached an agreement. This is to guarantee that he stays with the German champions through the 2024–2025 season.

In order to finalise the relocation to Spain in 2025, personal terms are agreed with in the second verbal agreement with Real Madrid. They say Florentino Perez, the head of Los Blancos, won’t be concerned about money because the sale may be for as much as €150 million (£127 million).

This is in response to a recent German article that revealed Real Madrid’s interest and said that the playmaker and manager Xabi Alonso were in the process of being linked to summer transfers to the Champions League champions. Alonso has also been discussed as a possible replacement for Pep Guardiola at City. After Jurgen Klopp announced his resignation, Alonso was strongly connected to the Liverpool position.

With just one year remaining on his deal, Guardiola has made it clear that he intends to depart the team when it expires in the summer of 2019.

Wirtz is currently concentrating on his first international competition in his native country. Germany plays Scotland in the opening round of the competition before playing Hungary and Switzerland to round off Group A.

The playmaker has been suggested as Kevin De Bruyne’s possible replacement. The 32-year-old Belgian, whose contract has one year left on it, has been connected to a move to Saudi Arabia.

After recovering from an ACL injury prior to the season, Wirtz has had a tremendous season, totaling double digits in assists and goals. If Madrid doesn’t get there first, Wirtz has no interest in leaving the Bundesliga team until at least 2025, which makes it ideal for City to move.
