Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink, a former captain of Chelsea, got into a heated argument with the fourth official during halftime of England’s match against Brazil on Saturday night. The Mirror claims that the former Netherlands international was incensed at several of the first-half decisions.

Upon arriving at their respective dressing rooms for halftime, the former Chelsea striker, who is a member of manager Gareth Southgate’s backroom staff, expressed his emotions to the official. “Well, I can tell you that it might have been feisty on the pitch, and it was exactly that in the tunnel as well,” Channel 4 broadcaster Kelly Sommers said. The Brazil squad, which I am sitting behind, was lively the entire first half.

“And Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink, the England coach, trailed the fourth official through the tunnel. They were having a lengthy conversation. Sadly, I don’t speak more than one language, and it wasn’t in English.

However, Danilo also became involved. One, two, three, four fouls, too many fouls was Hasselbaink’s message. Thus, it will be interesting to watch how the referee handles this second half.

According to The Mirror, Hasselbaink’s grievances are believed to have stemmed from the Wembley referee’s decision to leave West Ham star Lucas Paqueta on the field during the first half. After settling down during the second half, the former forward sat down with other members of the coaching staff on the England bench.

For a little more than a year, the former forward for Leeds United and Chelsea has been a member of the England coaching staff. Southgate appointed him in March 2023.

“He’s someone I know from having played with him at Middlesbrough and I know how curious he is about his coaching and he took that very seriously in his period managing,” the Three Lions manager stated in a statement at the time.

“His management skills and acute observation of the attacking players make him an excellent foil for us when it comes to opposing viewpoints.

“He can be tough and demanding, which is something we need on our coaching team, and he has a great personality among the group. For the players to benefit, we need everyone in the group to put increasing pressure on one another.

“We’re hoping Jimmy can help us get to the next bit, which is the biggest challenge of all. Getting to where we have been has been difficult.”
