Former England manager Gareth Southgate has been widely connected with the Manchester United position over the last six months—but he is preparing to take a vacation from coaching.

Gareth Southgate has virtually taken himself out of the running to be Manchester United manager.

Former England manager Southgate has stated that he would not accept another management position for at least a year after leaving following the Euros last summer.

Southgate was extensively connected with Old Trafford because he knows the United hierarchy and is revered by Sir Jim Ratcliffe.

Southgate was tipped as one of the favourites to succeed Erik ten Hag if he was fired this season. But Southgate has dismissed the possibility of moving to United by declaring he needs a full reset after eight years as England manager.

Southgate stated at the European Club Association conference: “I will not coach in the next year, for sure. I’m confident of it.

“I need to allow myself time to make sound judgments. When you go out of a significant job, you need to allow your body and mind time. I’m lucky in that there are several possibilities available. “There’s no rush.”

Southgate has taken on a role as a technical observer for UEFA and has discussed additional prospects outside of football. But it’s evident that he doesn’t want the pressure of a managing position just yet.

Former Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel is interested in taking over at United if they decide to make a change and fire Ten Hag following the club’s terrible start to the season.

Manchester United’s top brass attended a tough seven-hour meeting in London on Tuesday to examine Ten Hag’s future following the club’s worst-ever start to a Premier League season, but no decision has been made public.

Despite the quiet, Ten Hag is claimed to be convinced that he has escaped the bullet and is gearing up for next weekend’s Premier League match against Brentford as usual.

United are now 14th in the rankings, having won only two of their first seven league games. They’ve also had an unimpressive start to the current Europa League season, drawing with FC Twente and FC Porto.
