George Baldock’s heartbroken fiancée breaks silence following death of ‘love of her life’

The Crown Prince of Greece also paid homage to the father-of-one, whose cause of death was identified as drowning after he was discovered at the bottom of the swimming pool of his villa.

George Baldock’s grieving fiancée has paid homage to her “soulmate” in an emotive statement, just hours after the former Premier League player’s death was announced.

The Greece international was discovered at his house in Athens on Wednesday after drowning in his swimming pool. The former Sheffield United full-back leaves behind his son Brody and fiancée Annabel Dignam, who broke her silence hours after his death was announced.

She shared a photo of the couple smiling together on her private Instagram account, captioned “George, the love of my life, my soulmate. The ideal father for our beautiful son.

“You complete me. You were my entire world, and I knew we were yours. You’re with me in Brody’s grin, chuckle, and contagious personality. My world will never be the same, but I will find a way to help Brody. “I promise.”

It comes after George’s family paid homage hours earlier, adding he “brought so much love”. They remarked, “You were the most exceptional parent, fiancée, son, brother, uncle, friend, teammate, and individual.

“Your excitement and contagious personality brought so much love to those who were lucky enough to meet you and those who admired you from the stands. We will remember our particular memories of you forever, and you will live on through your lovely son.

“You were supposed to travel home today so we could celebrate his first birthday together, but instead, we grieve your loss. As a family, it has been immensely moving, but also quite heartbreaking to read the numerous tributes given by individuals who knew George and those whose lives he affected.

“It was impossible to not adore him. We ask that you continue to respect our privacy during this difficult time as we grieve our sorrow.Annabel was the first to raise the alarm after not hearing from George. She was unable to contact him and contacted the owner of the home in Glyfada, Greece, to look for him.

The Greece international joined Athens ‘Panathinkaikos’ from Sheffield United, after qualifying for the Greek national team through his grandmother. Tragically, he was discovered at the bottom of the pool by his landlord, who went over the fence to gain entry to the property.

George was wearing swimming trunks when he was hauled out of the water by emergency responders. Despite all efforts to save his life, he was unable to be resurrected.Forensic experts who performed the autopsy on Baldock at Athens University Hospital on Thursday this week claim he was dead for five hours before being discovered. Initial postmortem results verified the likely cause of death, as “microscopically foamy microbubbles” had developed on the body, indicating drowning.

Police have stated that it will be “several weeks, if not months” before full autopsy and toxicology reports are disclosed. According to reports, a half-empty bottle of vodka and two glasses were discovered near the pool, prompting authorities to check whether another individual was present.

Despite this, officials have since ruled out any criminal involvement in his death.

Pavlos, Greece’s Crown Prince, has also paid respect to George. The second child and oldest son of Greece’s last monarch, Constantine II, and Queen Anne-Marie, shared a photo of the player to his Instagram story with the caption ‘RIP George Baldock’.Sheffield United has published a lot of messages in homage to George. In one, they stated that they were “shocked and extremely saddened” to learn of his passing.

On X, they wrote: Sheffield United Football Club is surprised and saddened to learn of the death of former player George Baldock. The defender departed the club in the summer after seven years at Bramall Lane and was well-liked by fans, staff, and teammates who wore red and white shirts with him.
