John Hollins, a former player and manager of Chelsea, has passed away at the age of 76, as confirmed by the club.
Hollins accumulated nearly 600 appearances as a player for the club, netting 64 goals throughout his two tenures at Stamford Bridge from 1963 to 1984.
In 1985, he was designated as the manager, and he remained in that role for a duration of three years.
“He was revered by the supporters of this club, and held in high regard by me,” stated Chelsea board member Daniel Finkelstein.
“He played a central role in one of Chelsea’s most successful teams and, in addition to helping the team win trophies, he embodied its essence.”
He boosted the team’s morale with his performance and brightened up the stadium with his cheerful expression. He dedicated his life to serving this team, both as a player, a manager, and a matchday ambassador. He was deeply adored and will be greatly mourned.
Hollins earned his first international appearance for England at the age of 20 in 1967, when he started in a friendly match against Spain.
